This type of mask is designed with an exhaust port to effectively remove exhaled carbon dioxide. It also includes a safety valve with an anti-asphyxiation feature. In the event of a malfunction of the ventilator or a disconnection in the respiratory system, this valve can be opened to allow the patient to breathe naturally.
